Environment
As a company we are very aware of our responsibility with respect to the environment and our immediate surroundings. By means of MPS-A and Environmentally-friendly cultivation we do take responsibility and contribute to responsible use of energy and raw materials.
Environmentally-friendly horticulture
We believe the environment to be so important that we too want to contribute our part by:
-
Saving as much as possible on the generation of energy. We generate our own power through a chp (combined heat and power system). This is an enormously large generator, which converts gas into electricity, heat and co2. The electricity is used for the assimilation lamps and the co2
is used by the roses for the photosynthesis (combustion).
-
Heat and co2 supply to neighbours. All heat that is released in the process of converting gas into electricity is used entirely by us and heat that is possibly left goes to the neighbours and this is also true for the co2. A completely closed circuit.
-
Supplying energy to the net. If there is a shortage of electricity from the energy net, for instance when everyone starts working in the morning, we can partially supply that electricity by not providing our energy to the assimilation lamps but to the energy net instead.
-
Recirculation of feed water. All of the feed water we give to the roses is reused and cleaned from all diseases. So not a drop of feed water enters the canal or sewer.
-
Integrated cultivation. Which means: cultivate biologically as much as possible. For disease control the chemical products are reduced to a minimum. Actually we try to control pests with pests.
-
The light emission is minimised. All light emission from the assimilation lamps is stopped by means of a closed shielding screen, both at the top of the greenhouse and on the sides.
-
Waste separation. All waste is neatly separated, just like it is done in a household.
Because of all these measures we can be called Milieu Project Sierteelt-A (Environmental Project Ornamental Horticulture-A) certified, which is a very nice recognition for a rose growing company for environmentally aware cultivation.
